Alexander W. Stow

Alexander Wolcott Stow (February 5, 1805 – September 14, 1854) was an American jurist and the first Chief Justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Born in Lowville, New York, he practiced law in Rochester, New York and had gone to the United States Military Academy for one year. His father was Congressman and jurist Silas Stow. In 1845, he moved to Taycheedah, Wisconsin, in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. In 1848, Stow was elected a Wisconsin Circuit Court judge and served as Chief Justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court leaving office in 1851. He practiced law and was involved with business in Fond du Lac and Milwaukee.[1][2]
